Having Food Particles In Stool? Check Out Reasons For This Condition Here

Majority of people go out to eat in restaurants, street food and some junk food in home as well. This is because of our natural craving for particular dish or just to have something spicy. However you may have got upset stomach after eating some outside or unhealthy food at times, this also happens if you have some illness. This undigested food goes outside your body in form of stool. In general if it happens once in a while it not a cause of concern, but it can become one when this happens regularly over a period of time. Hence today we are going to discuss about some reasons for getting undigested food in stool.

Why does food appear in stool?

This is a natural query which may appear unknowingly to your brain when it comes to having undigested food. This could be because of several reasons but could potentially cause problems to your health as well. It happens with change in bowel habits, during diarrhoea and causes sudden weight loss and digestive problems. Mostly food appears in stool when it is highly fibrous in nature such as corns or body in unable to break them down to produce energy. Here are some reasons mentioned for this issue.


Reasons for Having Food in Stool

1. High Fibre Foods

Fibre is generally considered very healthy for the body but sometimes it can be indigestible part of the food. This is because it needs lots of enzymes and bile juices to break down fibre to produce energy in the body. If you are having digestive problems such as constipation or diarrhoea, the body is unable to digest fibre rich foods and it goes into your stool as a result. This is common when the food does not break down properly and gets stored in intestinal walls of the digestive tract. High fibre food consist of the following-

  • Leafy vegetables
  • Certain grains
  • Corn
  • Beans
  • Seeds
  • Peas
  • Raisins
  • Nuts

2. Eating too quickly

When a person eats too quickly or in a hurry, there are chances that the food remains undigested and appears in stool. A person may eat or swallow food very quickly at times and sometimes without chewing it, this makes it difficult for digestive system to breakdown food properly. As a result of improper digestion, the food goes directly into stool. 

To avoid this condition, one must chew his food properly until it’s totally broken down. Also slow down your eating process and focus on taking small bites which can prevent digestive issues.

3. Crohn’s Disease

One of the reasons for having undigested food in your stool can also be because of crohn’s disease and inflammatory bowel diseases. It causes inflammation in the digestive tract because of which it results to symptoms of this disease.

Grains such as wheat, barley, and other gluten products create sensitivity. This can also result to problems in digestion and undigested food can keep occurring in your stool for long periods.

  • Greasy, loose, foul smelling stools

5. Pancreatic Insufficiency 

A person lacking in pancreatic enzymes can have hard time breaking down food. This could lead the person to have food in their stool. 7. Having stomach bug

Having problems related to stomach bug, or stomach flu can lead to indigestion. This problem of having stomach bugs in the stomach is called gastrointestinal virus. This can increase over time and cause digestive problems that cause undigested food in the stomach. Some symptoms of gastroenteritis are-
