  • Kadha helps in boosting immunity.
  • It is also rich in antioxidants, which help in fighting the free radicals, thus preventing cellular damage.
  • It reduces inflammation. Hence, it helps with cough, cold, throat irritation, and respiratory issues, the doctor said.
  • Kadha also helps with digestion.
  • It’s also known for purifying blood.
  • The primary use of kadha is for relieving common cold and flu symptoms such as sore throat, runny nose, cough cold, and mild fever.

Kadha For COVID Symptoms

You can drink kadha for COVID symptoms

First and foremost, you need to understand that Ayurvedic remedies might help you with mild symptoms. However, you must not only depend on Ayurveda, especially if you experience severe illness or your symptoms worsen over time, consult your doctor immediately. Also, when consuming ‘kadha’, you need to ensure you aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients used in it.

The third COVID wave in India is associated with the spread of Omicron, a highly infectious but ‘mild’ variant, according to experts. Many people contracting the virus are either asymptomatic or experience mild symptoms. A sore throat, cough, cold and mild fever are the primary symptoms they experience. Kadha can help you with each of these. However, since symptoms are different, you’ll need different ingredients for treating them.

Kadha For Cough & Cold

Drinking kadha can give you some relief from cough and cold. Here are the ingredients you’ll need for it:

  • Ginger
  • Cloves
  • Basil leaves
  • Black pepper
  • Bay leaves
  • Honey

Kadha For Fever

While down with fever, you can have kadha prepared with:

  • Giloy powder or stem
  • Parijat leaves
  • Tulsi leaves
  • Ajwain leaves
  • Mint leaves
  • Honey

According to Dr Madhusmita, you can also have kadha for COVID. You can make one using tulsi, cinnamon, black pepper, giloy powder, raisins, mint leaves, and jaggery. However, do note that neither will it prevent COVID, nor treat it. The herbal decoction is known to be good for immunity, which is vital in fighting off COVID.

Drinking Kadha For COVID, Its Symptoms: Things To Keep In Mind

Indians have been consuming kadha for a long time. This shows it’s a time-tested remedy for several ailments. However, there are things you must keep in mind while consuming it:

  • Never boil it excessively.
  • It’s always better if you drink it fresh.
  • Do not add too much honey or jaggery.
  • After drinking kadha for two to three days, if you experience symptoms such as acidity, heartburn, acid reflux, mouth ulcer, burning micturition, dry mouth, breathlessness, then reduce the proportion of herbs and spices.

How Much Kadha Is Enough?

Kadha can help you with COVID symptoms. However, overdoing it will do you more harm than good.

  • Just half to one cup of kadha a day during winters is enough.
  • If you think it’s too much for you, then drink it on alternate days.
  • Avoid consuming kadha regularly for a long period.

It’s great to take care of your health. However, overdoing anything can have a detrimental impact. The same applies to kadha, which when consumed in excessive amounts can give you mouth ulcers, acidity, acne, dry mouth and skin, burning micturition, and breathing difficulties. Hence, have your kadha but not excessively.
