The year 2022 is here and while celebrations often mark a New Year, for many, another tradition holds just as important: making New Year’s resolutions. New year resolutions every elderly should have

People have various new year resolutions and positively directed promises for themselves. Along with the youth, older people should also try to make their lives happier and healthier. Reassuring yourself and taking it up as a mantra can be helpful in many situations. Here are some ideas on what you can promise to do in 2022:

1. Make it a Point to Move

2020, and a large part of 2021, forced you to stay indoors unexpectedly or spend hours on the couch. Come 2022, it is a good idea to promise yourself that you will find a way to exercise within the house. For instance, yoga and aerobics can be taken up at home. If you find it hard to exercise alone, get a home attendant for the elderly to help you with your workouts.

2. Get a Hobby

There is a possibility that you may have to stay home for a good part of 2022 too. Being home on your own can get lonely. Instead of wallowing, start a new hobby! Learning something new can improve your cognitive functions, keep you active as well as engaged. Some hobbies that are enjoyable and healthy are knitting, origami, gardening, and chess.

3. Focus on Your Food

If you’ve been struggling to switch up your eating habits, why not make it your new year’s resolution to do so? This shift can be fun; try a new vegetable or fruit every week or cook healthy meals for yourself. Enlist a buddy or an assistant to help. Home attendants for the elderly can also help you cook your meals, pick up groceries, or just give you company as you experiment.

4. Check-in With Your Mental Health

Taking care of your mind is just as important as looking after your body. 2021 may have already taught you that. In 2022, pay closer attention to your mental health. Check in with your GP about your mental wellbeing. Also, incorporate mental activities in your routine, like solving a Rubik’s cube or a crossword puzzle to keep your mind sharp.

5. Acclimatize Yourself with Technology

With the pandemic taking everything online, this could be the year when you familiarize yourself with the new ways of the world. So far, you may have depended on someone else to help you with technology. In 2022, learn to navigate the virtual world, shop, and make that first online payment all on your own!
